Sony E3 Media Briefing
Sony had some interesting things to show at this years E3 so if you missed it here is the list of announcements.
God of War
Sony opened up the show with a live demo of the new God of War which showed off some beautiful graphics and smooth flowing fight scenes. In the demo we focus on Kratos and wait for it… his son bet you didn’t see that coming. During the 10 minutes of gameplay we see Kratos trying to teach his son how to hunt and kill in a world where these skills are needed to survive, it looks like God of War will feature a very emotive storyline based around father and son, but the demo didn’t really show us anything we haven’t come to expect from these games.
Days Gone appeared twice in this event the first time we were shown the footage above, where we find our lead player in a post apocalypse world pining for a lost love. I know a story we have all heard and seen before but stay with me. towards the end of the show Days gone reappeared showing some in game footage of the main character looking for one of his biker mates only to find him mentally broken, aggressive and surrounded by hundreds of zombies and I don’t mean the slow kind these zombies are more like those of the World War Z film, as they can run, jump and climb what looks to be any obstacle in their path. In a desperate attempt to escape we see the player able to move and damage environments to slow the horde down including using the weight of members of the dead zombies to destroy a small bridge. This looks to be a deep and interesting game but we are yet to know much if anything about the story in the game as by the end of the footage we see our character in a position impossible to get out of.
Horizon Zero Dawn
Zero Dawn is set in a time where robot life is everywhere and has started to follow in the path of our own evolution, in the footage above we see robots resembling dinosaurs and various other animals. The game world and mechanics resemble that of The Witcher 3 as we have a free roam map, a similar if not simplified version of the Witcher inventory menu, conversation options when speaking to NPCs, but what looks really impressive is the ease in which the character moves around the world especially in open combat and to have the ability to hack the robots and turn them in to mounts is a really unique way of making your way around the world, what I do hope is that this ability is one of many and can be used on many different enemies not just a select few.
Detroit Become Human
I’m not quite sure what to make of this but I will leave the decision making to yourselves.
Become Human is set in a world where androids and humans live side by side but with some not trusting the robot kind as it looks like androids have evolved past their original programming and have decided to live their lives how they choose which in some cases involves violence towards their creators. Detroit Become Human takes the decision making games to the next level with every decision impacting your story and ending in a different outcome giving you what looks like hundreds of different ways to tell the story.
This obviously Sony’s focus point of the event announcing that 50 games are in development for the hardware plus a US release date of October 13 2016 and a price of $399 with this Sony announced some of the games that will make use of the VR headset.
Resident Evil 7
This looks like one the fans will be happy to see as Resident Evil goes back to its horror routes. We don’t know much about the story as we are yet to see any of our characters from previous games, however the shadowy figure in the wheel chair does resemble that of Spencer. Resident Evil 7 will be playable from beginning to end on PlayStation VR but we are yet to find out if this will be the same for other VR headsets as the game will also launch on PC and Xbox One.
This seems to be a first person open world shooter based on a unknown planet full of alien life. what we don’t know is if this will be a PlayStation VR game or a standard shooter.
Batman VR, Final Fantasy XV VR and Star Wars Battlefront VR
In the above trailer you can hear the Joker taunting Batman, what we don’t know is if this will be part of the previous batman games meaning that it must either be a prequel or the Joker is somehow alive again.
this is another one I’m not quite sure what to make of the idea sounds amazing to be able to explore the world of final fantasy and take part in epic fights however the video still seems a bit strange.
Star Wars Battlefront VR is a X-Wing flight simulator and not much more.
Crash Bandicoot remastered & Skylanders
For a while now there have been rumours of Crash coming back and now we know its true, all be it a bit disappointing that its only remakes and no real new material other than adding him to the world of skylanders.
This was the big announcement for many a new IP created by Hideo Kojima featuring Norman Reedus, however we have no idea what this game is about, the only info we have is the above video.
That’s right another Spiderman game because we just haven’t got sick of what is expected to be another sub par superhero game, however the detail on Spidey and the fluid movement mean it could be one for the fans but as Sony still own the right to the film franchise all be it after making a deal with Marvel, I believe this is nothing more than a cash cow to be released around the time of the next Spiderman film.
