Microsoft Buys Beam
Microsoft has just hit big a the streaming community by purchasing a young company Beam. For those of you that don’t know Beam is a streaming service similar to that of Twitch and Hitbox, however Beam is only 6 months old and in that time has managed to gain 100,000 unique viewers. Even though Beam is very young it is looking to be a real rival to Twitch if it can continue to grow and keep adding the features Twitch users are looking for. Not only will Microsoft have to take on Twitch with this purchase but also take on Hitbox which is the worlds second biggest streaming site, which also boasts more features that Twitch, meaning this may be a who can kill Twitch first race or will the power house stay on top.
We cant be sure why Microsoft has decided to go ahead with this purchase other than to increase the social side of Xbox Live, but it looks like they may have an uphill struggle but since 2000 when has Microsoft done the easy thing from the dramatic change to the Windows UI in Windows 8 to the hard life of Windows Phone. All we can do is wait and see, I for one would be open to trying the service when Microsoft starts to build on the current platform.
