What Is Going On With The Microsoft Band
So this week rumours started flying that Microsoft had stopped work on the Band 3 or possibly disbanded the team to focus on the health platform and instead of the hardware. Well to add to this today a few users have notice that on Android devices the Microsoft Health app has been rebranded Microsoft Band what the purpose of this is we can only speculate.
A few things don’t make sense to me, to start with the Band 2 is a massive improvement over the original Band and many users started to see the produce as a permeant member of the Microsoft family and sales increased massively, so with customers starting to come on board why would you kill a product line.
Another thing that doesn’t make sense to me is why would you stop a team from working on a device to focus on the health platform if no other device works on such health platform its just throwing money away.
None of this makes any sense until today when the apps started to get renamed. Its is possible that Microsoft have renamed the so they can release another health platform that would work with products such as Fitbits and Android devices, while the previous health app now named band becomes a solo app just for the users of the Microsoft Band. What would this mean for Microsoft they currently sit in a area where Windows Mobile is circling the drain where even the fan boys are looking to jump shit with the loss of such apps as Paypal and MyFitnessPal. One of the only big draws for new customers was the extra features offered when to Band user when pairing it with a Windows Mobile device but if this is the end of the line for the Band then that section of users would go as well.
Will the long awaited Surface Phone be enough to bring new customers and developers over or is Microsoft the new Blackberry. This fan boy can only hope as with out the Band I will most likely move to Android and install the many Microsoft apps that are not available for Widows.
