Mass Effect: Andromeda Gameplay Trailer
After months of teasing, and a relatively light-on-information cinematic trailer on N7 Day, EA and Bioware have finally dropped a full length trailer for the next installment of the Mass Effect series. Shown during The Game Awards ceremony, it gives us nearly 5 minutes of really exciting in-game footage showcasing everything from combat through to small snippets of the much-loved dialogue options and the much-maligned and now redesigned Mako sections.
So there you have it! If the footage is as it will be on release, the on foot sections look genuinely stunning whilst the action seems to have morphed from simply a cover shooter with powers to the opportunity to truly blend both options together seamlessly. Planetary travel seems to have used the same ‘galaxy map’ format from the previous games but added actual individual travel scenes for each planet, giving each more of a personality. Also, crafting! Whilst the ability to upgrade armour and weapon sets in the vein of The Witcher 3 is certainly appealing, we’ll have to wait and see whether it leans that way, or ends up being more of a Dragon Age Inquisition version of ‘fetch x amount of weirdly named items and repeat’. Fingers crossed it also doesn’t give EA an opportunity to add microtransactions in the form of ‘crafting tool packs’…*shudder*
Still, those reservations aside, the game looks fantastic so far, and with its ‘Spring 2017’ release window fast approaching, here’s hoping we’ve got another incredible entry in the always-reliable Mass Effect series inbound.
