Nightwing Film In The Works
Warner Bros. is planning to add another superhero to their ever growing slate of DC films including Nightwing to the lineup.
The studio is currently in negotiations with The Lego Batman director Chris McKay to helm the new live-action film, and has brought on The Accountant writer Bill Dubuque to pen the script.
For those who do not know Nightwing is the superhero persona that original Robin, aka Dick Grayson, took on after choosing to go solo. Grayson was created by Bob Kane and Bill Finger and illustrator Jerry Robinson, and was first introduced in Detective Comics No. 38 back in April 1940. Before becoming the boy wonder he was the youngest member of a family of acrobats known as the Flying Graysons. His family is unfortunately murdered and he is eventually taken in by Bruce Wayne (Batman), which led to him becoming Robin joining the Dark Knight in his fight against crime on the streets of Gotham City. After stepping out on his own Grayson became the leader of the Teen Titans.
Within the DC Universe Nightwing is a widely popular character, headlining his own comics, being featured in various animated movies and television series, and appearing in DC videogames.
The most recent iteration of Dick Grayson was in McKay’s Lego Batman. The character appeared as Robin in the film, and was voiced by Michael Cera.
As it stands the only indication that the character of Robin existed in the DCEU is via a graffiti-covered suit that was shown in Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice. At the time it was clear to fans that a Robin had been killed by the Joker. Although it was not stated out right which of the many Robin’s it might have been, most fans had come to the conclusion that it was most likely Jason Todd similar to what happened in the comics.
Details have yet been release on where the Nightwing film will land in Warner Bros. long list of projects that have been announced for the DC Extended Universe. Still, with the film in the works and a planned Cyborg film on the studios slate, after the characters appearance in the upcoming Justice League film, could we end up see the Titans on the silver-screen?
We can only speculate on the future of the DCEU, but for now we can look forward to Wonder Woman heading to theatres June 2, Justice League on its way Nov 17 and Aquaman Oct 5, 2018.
